Former “Glee” star co-hosts The View, comes under fire

Naya Rivera co-hosted The View on ABC the other day and took part in a discussion about a new study that showed that Americans who showered daily, sometimes even several times a day, were actually overreacting, and damaging their skin in the process.

Two dermatologists were cited by BuzzFeed as saying that showering daily in America was more of a social thing, and that 2 or 3 showers a week, depending on several factors, could nicely do the job of keeping us clean.

As Naya sees it, showering daily is “a white people thing.”

Naya Rivera showers 3 times a week

The “Glee” actress isn’t exactly enjoying as much popularity online as she’d like, especially after word got out that she was trying to copy Kim Kardashian in everything, starting from the way she looked, which she attained with plastic surgery and heavy makeup.

However, her most recent comments seem to have struck a chord, because she’s being viciously attacked online, apparently for overgeneralizing about ethnics’ hygiene habits.

After Nicolle Wallace revealed that she showered 3 times a day, Naya proceeded to present her “theory.” “White people shower a lot more than ethnics,” she said. “I feel like showering more than once a day or every day is such a white people thing.”

When Rosie O’Donnell told her that an African-American woman in the audience was about to faint from what she’d heard, Naya defended herself by saying her mom was “half black, half Puerto Rican” and showered daily. Her husband, though, who is white, did it several times a day.

“So the study says, a dermatologist says you are only supposed to shower once or twice every three days, so I'm right on the mark,” she concluded, to the shocked gasps from the audience.

Online criticism and defense

Since the segment aired (video below), many people on social media have wasted a lot of time and effort to put Naya back in her place, urging her to stop speaking for all people, especially ethnics, and to keep her “gross” hygiene habits to herself.

As noted above, she’s come under fire before for a variety of reasons, because she’s not as loved as she’d like to be, but never before like this. Not even when she criticized Kim Kardashian’s #BreakTheInternet Paper magazine cover did she experience this kind of backlash.

On the bright side, she’s not letting it bring her down. She’s been busy promoting her appearance on The View on social media, with the tweet below being her only response to all those who think she should cut it out with the TMI – and just shower every day like “normal” people do.
