After 25 years since the creation of the Naughty Dog studio, the developer now has two separate teams, which makes things even more exciting than before, at least according to the company, which released a special message to fans marking the winter holidays and the upcoming New Year.

Naughty Dog is the studio responsible for cult favorite franchises like Jak and Daxter or Uncharted, and has just released the first details on an all-new intellectual property called The Last of Us, which is being developed by an all-new team inside the studio, working separately from the group that’s been making the Uncharted games.

In order to mark this change, the studio released a special holiday card, in which the characters from Uncharted, including Nathan Drake, Elena, Chloe or Sully, welcome the two new protagonists from The Last of Us, Joel and Ellie.

“The year has brought about tremendous change as Naughty Dog has grown into a two team studio for the first time in our 25 year history,” the studio’s community strategist, Eric Monacelli, said. “This shift is terrifically exciting as it signals an expanded talent pool in which we can share ideas, know-how, and techniques. As future projects evolve, we will continue to strive to maintain our high Naughty Dog standards and always endeavor to do whatever it takes to raise the bar for gaming.”

Naughty Dog will continue to work on The Last of Us, while the Uncharted team will now focus its efforts on new downloadable content for Uncharted 3, which will be detailed in the first few months of 2012.

“Currently we’re working on some fresh DLC for Uncharted 3 and we will be sharing complete details about what you’ll be getting and what’s in store for all members of the Fortune Hunters’ Club in the New Year.”

Naughty Dog fans will also be treated with a blast from the past next year, when the Jak and Daxter HD collection will be delivered onto the PS3, remastered in high definition by the Mass Media studio.
