The development team at Unknown Worlds announces that its shooter Natural Selection 2 is at the moment free-to-play on the Steam digital distribution service and that players can also enjoy a new game update called Reinforcement.

The new content includes new weapons to play with, a new model for a female Marine soldier, more items to use, a wider selection of traps and more.

Gamers can also enjoy Natural Selection 2 using DirectX 11 and on Linux.

Unknown Worlds is at the moment also taking crowd funding donations from fans to cover the development cost of the content.

The team says, "Various options were discussed – Including making Reinforced a separate Steam DLC, or introducing in-game micro-transactions. But these monetisation methods do not fit with our culture. Knowing we must pay the bills to keep the lights on, we decided to introduce the Reinforcement Program."

Natural Selection 2 is also available with a price cut until September 2.
