The development team at Unknown World announces that it is working on a new female marine for its Natural Selection 2, which will arrive in September and will feature appropriate body armor for fighting deadly aliens.

The team says that it has made a conscientious decision to use a design that would be practical rather than go the normal video game route and give the female marine revealing armor.

The team at Unknown Worlds says that the industry has a tendency to portray female characters in inappropriate ways and it is fighting against the trend.

The company says on the official forums, “When female characters are granted equal protection, that protection often ignores basic laws of physics in favor of offering titillating form.”

It adds, “The Natural Selection 2 female marine is first and foremost, like her male colleague, a soldier. Her armor puts function before form, while adopting the science fiction, melee combat aligned design ques that have made the male marine so uniquely recognizable.”

Unknown World is still working on the final design for the Natural Selection 2 female marine and will offer more information to the community as the process progresses.

The game combines first-person shooter mechanics and elements taken from real-time strategy as teams of humans and aliens fight for resources and for territory in big facilities.

Each side has very different play styles, with the humans focusing on technology and ranged attacks while the aliens are trying to get near to deliver powerful close quarters blows.

A commander on each team has the ability to see the battlefield from above, deploy buildings and research new tech in order to help his comrades and give them the tools they need to achieve victory.

The new character will be offered for free in an update that will also deliver other gameplay enhancements.
