On Thursday night, at about midnight local time, a natural gas pipeline ruptured and exploded in central Missouri. The incident occurred close to the village of Hughesville in Pettis County.

Information shared with the public says that the pipeline is owned and operated by the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company.

For the time being, no deaths and injuries have been reported. According to NBC News, the area is not densely populated.

Witnesses say that, once the natural gas caught fire, the blaze got so big that it could be seen for miles. A video of the fire has made it online, and you can watch it below.

In the aftermath of the incident, the pipeline was shut down and, early Friday morning, workers arrived at the scene and began repair works.

An investigation is ongoing, and both the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company and authorities in Missouri hope that the cause of the rupture and the subsequent explosion will soon be determined.
