A site from Turkey has been compromised to serve in this scheme

Once every few days we are seeing a new version of the Nationwide phishing scheme that has been making the rounds this month. The latest bogus notifications are entitled “Alert – Online Security Banking Notification.”

Here’s what these emails look like:

DEAR CUSTOMER ,

We’ve updated our Online Banking login page. We've listened to you and made changes to improve your Online Banking experience.

Kindly update your account now to enjoy these improvements.

Please click here to update your account now!

Thank you for banking with Nationwide.

Security Center Nationwide Bank The interesting thing about this particular text is that it has been used on previous occasions to target the customers of ANZ and other financial institutions.

In this particular case, the links from the emails point to a Turkish website that specializes in exotic fish. The cybercriminals planted their own webpage – which replicates the login page of Nationwide – on this site.

Be sure to avoid entering your details on suspicious-looking websites.
