National Geographic has released a new application for iPhone, iPad, as well as iPod Touch devices, called Nat Geo View. The app is free and looks very promising, as it will give users instant access to content from the National Geographic website, including galleries of stunning photos, video of the day, magazine articles, and much more.

Nat Geo View promises to give users instant access to all the awesome content from the National Geographic website, including galleries full of stunning photos, magazine articles optimized for reading on the iPhone, images from the Your Shot photo community, the latest videos related to travel, adventure and science, as well as the most interesting news stories.

As usual, we took the application for a short test drive and created a nice screenshot tour for your viewing pleasure. We can report that the application has a simple, darkish design that displays six main categories (News, Photo of the Day, Proof, Daily Dozen, Video of the Day, Instagram), and allows users to access an archive that contains seven days' worth of content.

The navigation is quite unique and it requires iOS 8.0 or later

While the app has no settings at all, we find the navigation unique and quite interesting, as clicking on a category on the main screen will allow you to either swipe to left/right to continue navigating the main categories, or to touch the screen on a category to access its content, which can be navigated by swiping up and down on the screen with your finger (a yellow progress bar is displayed in this view at the top).

And now for some technical specs, as the app works only on devices where iOS 8.0 or later is installed. Additionally, we can mention that it has been optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, despite the fact that it is also compatible with iPad and iPod Touch devices. You can download Nat Geo View right now from the App Store.
