Many people who have been traveling abroad have found it quite difficult to call at home due to expensive rates and there really is need for a mobile service that would offer some friendlier tariffs.

National Geographic Talk Abroad Phone has recently been launched and it targets exactly the type of user that travels a lot, and which can now access a service that allows talking at an affordable price. National Geographic's phone is a quad-band handset and design-wise that looks like it's been designed several years ago.

But because this particular phone is very useful, one can pretty much ignore the design and think about functionality.

According to National Geographic, the phone is "a reliable international cell phone solution that makes it easy and affordable for anyone going overseas to have the safety and convenience of a cell phone".

The user will be able to receive calls in more than 100 countries worldwide while maintaining one personal cellular number. It can be successfully used by international students, travelers or people on vacation and it doesn't imply any contract. Travelers can also get free incoming calls in most international markets.

The national Geographic phone can be purchased for $199, price that includes 30 minutes of free outgoing talk time or rent at $49 a week. A SIM card is available for $79 including 30 minutes of free outgoing talk time and can be purchased at select mobile telephone stores.

The service also comes with a 24-hour 7-days a week dedicated customer service that the user can call to ask questions, add minutes or order a mobile phone. National Geographic Talk Abroad Travel phone will be available starting March this year.
