Natalie Portman doesn’t make too many public appearances when she’s not contractually bound to but, when she does, they sure are memorable. The actress stepped out at the New York City Ballet 2013 Fall Gala – and managed to steal everybody else’s thunder.

A photo of Natalie and husband Benjamin Millepied, a ballet dancer and choreographer on her Oscar-winning “Black Swan,” is also attached to this article.

For the event, which took place at the Lincoln Center, Natalie wore a gorgeous, color-blocking column Dior gown from the Fall 2013 collection, which also stood out because of the fabric.

If you look closely, it looked like the entire dress was made of small spikes.

Natalie accessorized with smoky eyes and natural-looking lips, a black clutch and rather out-of-place-looking black watch. She wore her hair down in a typical no-fuss fashion.

Millepied, who was looking very dapper as well, posed with her on the red carpet, as he got ready for a night when his most recent work would be showcased on stage.

Other big names at the event included “SATC” actress Sarah Jessica Parker, model Doutzen Kroes, actress Drew Barrymore, and Amber Valetta.

True to her Carrie Bradshaw reputation, Parker wore a couture piece that had actually been created by two separate designers.

Dubbed “Meeting of Two Minds,” the architectural piece bore the signature style of Prabal Gurung, who created the bustier, and Olivier Theyskens, who did the oversized skirt and the belt.

British publication Hello Magazine has photos of the light pink gown.

Even though Parker’s dress was definitely the most elaborate, it was Portman who stole the thunder, if only for the simple reason that she doesn’t do red carpets that much these days.

Come to think of it, since her big Oscar win for “Black Swan,” she’s hardly ever seen at events of this type, which must be frustrating for her fans.
