Hollywood cutie Natalie Portman can now be seen in the drama “Brothers,” opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire, and is busy working on “Black Swan.” She still has time to look for other projects as well, and that involves producing and starring in “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” Variety informs.

The film is based on the ever popular novel by Seth Grahame-Smith and Jane Austen with the same title that presents the classic story with a few zombies thrown in the mix for good measure. A while back, we also reported that major Hollywood studios were fighting for the rights to the story because it was believed to be a massive potential hit. As per Variety, the rights have been secured and Portman has already made a move for the kill, so to speak.

“Given Natalie Portman’s elegant demeanor, a turn in a period Jane Austen adaptation was inevitable. Portman will star in and produce “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” a film that is based on the bestselling book written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Austen. Lionsgate will finance and distribute. Quirk Books published the tome. Though Austen’s name is on the book, Grahame-Smith took the liberty of adding bloodthirsty flesh-eating zombies to the mix.” Variety says.

“Portman will produce through her handsomecharlie shingle with Annette Savitch, plus Darko Films’ Richard Kelly, Sean McKittrick and Ted Hamm. Described as an expanded version of the Austen classic, the book tells the timeless story of a woman’s quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers. Portman will play feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet, who is distracted from her quest to eradicate the zombie menace by the arrival of the arrogant Mr. Darcy.” the same publication also informs.

With such an exquisite lead, the film now lacks a Mr. Darcy. No actor is yet attached to the part, so fans of zombie movies should expect rumors to start running rampant any minute now. Keep an eye on this space for more details on this one.

What's next? Frankenstein meets Scrooge? Othello vs. Dracula? Nothing like showing your respect for a classic by tossing in a few zombies. Is there no end to the bad taste out there?
