The very first Naruto video game was Naruto: Konoha Ninpouchou, which was released in Japan on March 27, 2003 for the WonderSwan Color. Most Naruto video games have been released only in Japan. Because of this, many fans outside of Japan import the games. It wasn't until March 7, 2006 when Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen and Naruto: Saikyou Ninja Daikesshu were released in North America under the titles of Naruto: Clash of Ninja and Naruto: Ninja Council that any Naruto games were officially available outside of Japan.

Naruto RPG 2: Chidori vs. Rasengan is the second game of the series. A limited edition version of the game was created as well. This version has Sasuke on the cover, on the manual and on the game card. Its story spans from the quest for Tsunade until the fight that takes place at the Valley of the End and the end of the first part of the manga. The graphics of the game are significantly improved from the first game and every characters' sprites have been redrawn. The game adds many characters that can be switched out at various times in the story.
