NTT DoCoMo to provide funds for the development of nanotechnology platform

Nanosys, NTT DoCoMO and DoCoMo Capital, a wholly owned US subsidiary of NTT DoCoMO, have recently announced that they have entered into an exclusive collaboration agreement. Under the agreement, both NTT DoCoMo and its subsidiary will fund development efforts at Nanosys and NTT DoCoMO. Their aim is to develop Nanosys' nanotechnology platform for potential product opportunities in wireless communications for mobile phone telephone applications in Japan, where NTT DoCoMo currently has over 50 million customers.

"This collaboration, as well our investment in Nanosys, allows us to expand future opportunities for developing new mobile telephone applications," said Nobuyuki Akimoto, President and CEO of DoCoMo Capital. "Through advances using nanotechnology we expect to increase NTT DoCoMo's position as the mobile communications technology leader in the world."

Furthermore, DoCoMO Capital has announced its equity investment in Nanosys, the leader in the development of nanotechnology-enabled products, that collaborates with industry leaders in order to develop revolutionary high-value, high-performance products for computing, optoelectronics, communications, renewable energy, defense and life sciences.

Among others, Nanosys has also collaborated with Intel, In-Q-Tel, Sharp Corporation as well as U.S. Government agencies. Financial details of the agreements between Nanosys, DoCoMo Capital and NTT DoCoMO were not disclosed.
