Yesterday, we informed you of a disturbing post on the Wikipedia on-line encyclopedia. The basic concept is that everyone can post an article on the site, that is if it's deemed worthy by the editors.
The media has been in a massive uproar since pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife Nancy and 7-year-old son on June 24. However, the investigators were baffled by a Wikipedia post that revealed the death of Nancy Benoit, some 13 hours before the police found her body. Since the editors could not verify the authenticity of such an information, the post was quickly removed. After the investigators were informed of this, they immediately began a search for the person responsible.
Our suppositions turned out to be correct. This was just some guy who wanted to attract a little attention. And after seeing that the law was after him, this guy panicked. So he posted an apology on Wikipedia News, in which he explains what happened.
This guy is a wrestling junkie, he spends his time surfing the WWE blogs and forums. During this time, he has seen a number of rumors according to which Chris Benoit did not fight at Vengeance because his wife might be dead. It all comes down to this: this individual is not the one who started the rumor, but he is the one who posted it on the Wikipedia site.
In his apology post, this (still) anonymous character has stated that he could not believe it when this rumor turned out to be true and that he is deeply sorry for the unfortunate coincidence. He admits that he had no right to post this information on Wikipedia without proof to support his (otherwise) rumors.
This guy hopes that the matter will be closed and that he will no longer be pursued by the authorities. Fat chance! Don't think mean of me, but I hope they find him! People like that should not be allowed around a computer.
