A couple of weeks ago we were reporting on the world’s cheapest and smallest quick charger units for electric vehicles coming from Nissan. The device is to go on sale this November in Japan, followed by the United States and Europe from next year.

So is the case with the British division of Nissan, who will start receiving the new small quick chargers, which are currently under development, in early 2012.

The company announced it has added another six locations to the network of dealerships equipped to sell and service the 100% electric Nissan LEAF, bringing the total number to 32.

These will be the same dealerships to install the new EV quick charger, which is capable to charge the LEAF battery to 80% capacity in under 30 minutes.

The new unit can be used even in rainy weather, and offers many such features, including monitoring against a potential short circuit when the charging unit is interfacing with the EV.

In addition, in order to make it suitable for various charging environments, Nissan has developed three specifications: base, standard and cold weather.

The six dealers are already equipped with a twin-head Podpoint charging post and a 16A charging unit, meaning all EV owners can top up their charge when visiting the dealership.

All of the new EV retailers will also have a fully trained EV Relationship Manager who will act as a single point of contact at the dealership for LEAF customers.

Each EVRM has been put through an intensive training programme to understand all aspects of owning and driving the 100% electric car and will be able to assist Nissan LEAF customers with any queries they may have.

The new dealerships joining the network are: Holdcroft Nissan, Stoke; Macklin Motors, Glasgow; Trenton, Hull;     WLMG, Reading; WLMG, Mill Hill; and Wessex Garages, Bristol.
