The freak storm also packed cold temperatures, took people by surprise

It's nearly the end of May, so it's no wonder that the news that a freak storm dumped roughly 3 feet (0.9 meters) of snow on New York over Memorial Day weekend made headlines.

Apparently, the first snowflakes hit the ground on Saturday, and the storm only came to an end a day later, on Sunday.

Sources say that the region hit the hardest by this weird weather condition was Whiteface Mountain, a ski mountain located on New York's border with Vermont.

Spring or no spring, the storm was powerful enough to force authorities to shut down Whiteface Veteran's Memorial Highway running at the back of Whiteface Mountain.

Granted, this snowfall was by no means worthy of being mentioned in the Guinness World Records book, but it did freak out people living in this part of the United States.

More so since, as some say, it's hard to remember the last time this much snow fell on Whiteface Mountain at such a late date.
