The leading manufacturer of computer graphics, NVIDIA, is not satisfied with just offering the latest in computer graphics, it also plans to set a new world record by holding the world's "longest non-stop Lan party". This might sound childish to some, but most of NVIDIA's fans will probably agree with the Santa-Clara graphics manufacturer's intentions.

We all know that high-end computer games have driven the latest technology advancements in computer graphics and NVIDIA's GeForce lineup has been at the basis of the latest high-performance gaming rigs for a couple of years now. So it should come as no surprise that the company plans to let its fans play as much as they can while trying to set a new world record. This attempt will take place at the Nvision 2008 event which is going to be held this Wednesday in San Jose, California.

"This will be one of the most exciting gaming record attempts of the year," said Gaz Deaves, record manager for Guinness World Records. "I have been really impressed with the enthusiasm of the NVision team and I look forward to being the official adjudicator for this great event," he added.

The attempt will require that a group of gamers play video games for 36 continuous hours, being allowed just 10 minute breaks between every 60 minutes of non-stop gaming. If a team manages to stay awake through the entire 42 hour event, its members will be awarded numerous prizes, including a commemorative medal, custom gear and gift cards, although some of them will most likely appreciate a soft bed to rest.

"I have faith and confidence in the Nvidia gaming community, one of the most loyal, energetic and enthusiastic core audiences of Nvidia since we were a start-up," said Sheryl Huang, marketing director of the company. "At Nvidia events in the past, these guys have been up all night anyway. Their energy is incredible. I am looking forward to them setting this record and earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. It is glory time."

Let's just hope that NVIDIA won't manage to set the record for the world's most tired fans. Users who want to attend this event can register here, but you better do it as soon as possible, as the event is scheduled to begin this Wednesday.
