Chip maker NVIDIA is getting ready for becoming an important player on the mobile market, with its Tegra 2 mobile processor being included in a wide range of new devices running under Google's Android operating system.

Both tablet PCs and smartphones packing a Tegra 2 chip under Android were unveiled officially the past few weeks, and more of them are expected to arrive in the near future. 2011 would be the year of Tegra 2 devices, it seems, and NVIDIA is set to benefit the most of it.

[ADMARk=1]Moreover, the company is also aiming at offering users the possibility to enjoy the best of the new devices, and has announced the upcoming availability of an application that would help them discover appealing games built for Android.

“The Tegra Zone app allows you to discover the best enhanced games for your mobile device powered by an NVIDIA Tegra mobile processor,” the company notes on its website.

“Get professional game reviews, high-res screenshots, HD video trailers, gameplay videos, and behind-the-scenes footage. You can also connect Tegra Zone to your social networks, then brag about your high scores and challenge your friends,” NVIDIA continues.

Given the impressive performance levels that Tegra-based devices are expected to offer (the Tegra 2 chipset packs a dual-core processor), it does not come as a surprise that NVIDIA is aiming at increasing the awareness on them.

Of course, the app will be complemented by some sort of an application store for the owners of a dual-core Android phone, as Phandroid notes in a recent article. A number of 5 to 10 titles are expected to be available for download at launch, but no specific details on when that would happen emerged for the time being.

At the moment, all that NVIDIA says of the launch of this Tegra Zone app is that it is “coming soon to the Android Market.” Hopefully, the app and the portal will be launched before the end of the first quarter of the ongoing year, about the same time the first Tegra 2-based devices become available for purchase.
