It looks like the tablet-like hardware isn't there just for show

The Lenovo ThinkVision 28 is an all-in-one monitor that integrates tablet-like hardware allowing it to run Android and all associated apps when the PC is turned off. It's like having a 28-inch tablet that doubles as a monitor.

Curiously enough, until last week, it was assumed by many that the ARM-based system-on-chip (SoC) running the thing was a Tegra 3.

It's not. Instead, it is the new and improved Tegra K1 chip, which we’ve just established as being the best mobile chip out there.

Some folks were even willing to run some benchmark tests, which you'll find in the gallery below: 3DMark, GFXBench and AnTuTu.

The Lenovo ThinkVision 28 was pitted against the NVIDIA Tegra Note 7 (based on Tegra 4), Google Nexus 5 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800), Apple iPhone 5s (Apple A7), and EVGA Tegra Note 7 (Tegra 4).

In all tests, save for the AnTuTu benchmark where the Tegra Note 7 led (barely), the ThinkVision 28 finished ahead.

The overall advantage was of up to 25% in GPU-heavy tasks and CPU-limited physics tests, which is pretty amazing if it turns out that the Tegra K1 is operating at a lower rate than the possible peak.

The system (or rather the GPU-Z application) recognized the K1 as a 2.01 GHz chip, but NVIDIA says the top can be of 2.3 GHz.

Moving on, the advantage over Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (2.26 GHz) is of around 15%, which has made people wonder how the upcoming Snapdragon 805 will do.

Lenovo ThinkVision 28 is a UHD monitor (3840 x 2160 pixels resolution) with multitouch support, three USB 3.0 ports, microSD card slot, 2 GB DDR3, 32 GB NAND Flash storage, speakers, mics, audio jacks, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, Miracast support and a stand that lets it lean back.

Its price is of $1,000 / €1,000 and the Android version installed on it is Android 4.3 KitKat.
