That means the first devices won't be out before August

We've been hearing reports about Tegra 4 apparently not doing as well as some may expect, but the reason for it might be different from the one implied.

The impression painted by the rumor mill is that device makers haven't been very impressed with Tegra 4.

Now, though, it looks more like the real reason is continued unavailability of the platform.

While the Tegra 4 was formally revealed at CES 2013 in January, the latest conference call with financial analysts has revealed that shipments won't start until the second quarter of fiscal year 2014. That means sometime in July 2013.

It also means that tablets and smartphones powered by the ARM-based Wayne won't be selling before August.

On that same note, the NVIDIA Shield gaming device will only debut around the same time.
