Now that the 600 Series is out, this is not surprising at all

NVIDIA and its partners will probably have GeForce GTX 580 graphics boards up for sale for quite some time, but that's only because there is still some supply of them.

According to SweClockers, the Santa Clara, California-based company has decided to stop making new models.

Of course, with so many next-generation, 28nm GPU-based GTX 680 cards out there, this is not a surprise.

It may be that the shortages of 28nm chips at TSMC aren't all that severe after all.

At any rate, the GTX 580 had a decent run, having held the “fastest single-GPU card” title for a year before being outdone by AMD's Radeon HD 7900.

NVIDIA may or may not cut the price of the product in order to encourage its sale.

Now we just have to wait for the dual-GPU GTX 690, since the GTX 590 is no longer being produced either.
