Says Intel comparison was misleading

Another day, another piece of information on the ongoing battle between NVIDIA and Intel, two chip makers that are currently disputing the performance and quality of each other’s products. As part of a recent episode between the two, Intel has distributed a competitive document, in which the worldwide leading processor manufacturer claims that its GM45 chipset is better than NVIDIA's MCP79 chipset, both of which have been designed for notebooks. In a recent turn of events, Santa Clara, California-based chip maker NVIDIA responded to Intel's claims and defended its MCP79 product saying that Intel's comparison was misleading.

According to NVIDIA, Intel's comparison used a GM45 chipset that featured support for dual-channel memory, while the MCP79MVL used in the process provided support for single-channel memory. In addition, the former also states that the latter used its top GM45 SKU against NVIDIA's entry MCP79 SKU and that the NVIDIA-powered notebooks, used in the comparison, were not optimized for power management. NVIDIA continues to defend its product by saying that its top SKU, the MCP79MX, is faster than Intel's solution on 3DMark and offers better performance with similar battery life.

As Intel did in the leaked slides, NVIDIA continues by offering a number of performance results for its MCP79 SKUs, claiming a better overall product, compared to Intel's solution. According to the company, the entry SKU of the MCP79MVL chipset offers a higher performance than the top GM45 SKU. Also, according to NVIDIA's slides, the MCP79 products offer similar battery life to that of Intel’s products, while providing a video quality that is superior to the GM45.

NVIDIA's response to Intel's claims is offered in 8 slides, covering all the points Intel has offered in its document. It's clear that the battle between the two Santa Clara, California-based chip makers is still strong and we could say that, for the time being, Intel is playing offense, while NVIDIA is on the defense.
