In their great line of products, and apparently not even concerned about ATI anymore, NVIDIA has added a new professional platform for graphics processing and a serious challenger to ATI's FireGL
series of products. The Quadro Plex visual computing system (VCS) has reached its fourth generation, and now uses NVIDIA's Quadro FX 5600 GPUs, taking the unified shader architecture to the homes and offices of professional computer graphics artists.

The NVIDIA Quadro GPU architecture features 128-bit color precision, 3D volumetric texture support, fully programmable GPU with Shader Model 4.0 support and GPU computing visualization. The platform houses two NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 GPUs, which supply a total of 3GB of frame buffer, which can be processed and then shown through four dual-link DVI's. As for the performance you should expect from such a system, NVIDIA says that it will deliver a 20x increase in density when compared to traditional GPU solutions. The rendering power alone goes up to 80-billion pixels per second and seven billion vertices per second, supporting resolutions of up to 148 megapixels on 16 synchronized digital-output channels or eight HD SDI channels.

If that alone isn't sufficient information to persuade you into buying such a rig, maybe knowing that it can do full screen antialiasing up to 64x FSAA will. It's also the first type of system of this kind from NVIDIA that features the unified shader architecture and the first one to deliver 12-bit subpixel precision, with frame synchronization, which allows the display channels from multiple workstations to be synchronized into one large "virtual display". Adding the workstation to a multisytem cluster will increase performance scalability, but keep in mind that, as I was telling you about buying such a rig, the price tag will set you back $17.495 (MSRP).
