After you finish reading this article you might feel both happy and disappointed at the same time. That is if you have recently bought one of NVIDIA's GeForce 9800GTX graphics
cards. The Santa-Clara based graphics manufacturer has decided to go ahead with rumored price cuts for its G92-based lineup and has lowered the price tag for its GeForce 9800 GTX somewhere between $199 and $209.

This can only mean great news for all of the users out there who intend to upgrade their own desktop gaming rig. Especially since we are talking about one of NVIDIA's high-end graphics cards currently available on the market. This also means that users who want to boost their graphics performance by adding another card to enable a SLI setup can now do so in a more affordable way. Unfortunately those who have already acquired the card will be left rather disappointed for not having waited a bit longer. But then again, this is the way the market works, every time you purchase a card, a better one will soon be released, as technology advances.

Currently, users who want to acquire a graphics card based on the G92 65nm GPU can choose one from some of NVIDIA's best channel partners, namely EVGA, XFX or PNY. If you decide to go for one of EVGA's cards, an interesting choice is the $209.99 model, which will bring a factory overclocked card with a GPU speed set at 738MHz. A standard version of NVIDIA's card comes from XFX and has a price tag set at $219.99, but after a mail in rebate you will end up paying $199.99. XFX even bundles a Company of Heroes game, to sweeten the offer.

This will most probably put pressure on AMD, especially since the countdown to the official release of their HD 4000 series cards has begun. We can only wait and see how Advanced Micro Devices will respond.
