NVIDIA announced today the introduction of new GPUs that have been designed to leverage the performance of high-end notebooks to new levels. One of the new cards is the GeForce GTX 280M, which the company says would be the fastest graphics solution available at the moment, being able to deliver up to 50 percent more performance than previous-generation GPUs.

“These new NVIDIA GeForce GPUs are for those who won’t accept compromise in notebook performance,” said Rene Haas, general manager of notebook business at NVIDIA. “These new GPUs meet the needs of the most demanding consumers in the marketplace by delivering industry-leading performance at all price segments along with features that go beyond graphics.”

The new GeForce GTX 200M and GeForce GTS 100M Series GPUs include the GeForce GTX 280M and 260M GPUs developed for enthusiast notebooks, as well as GeForce GTS 160M and 150M GPUs, which are meant for high-performance, sleek notebooks. The new solutions are able to provide increased performance over previous-generation graphics cards, while not increasing the power consumption.

The NVIDIA SLI technology allows for the pairing of two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M GPUs, a move that can provide the fastest notebook graphics solution available today, says the company. In addition, the NVIDIA HybridPower technology can offer increased battery life and silenced operations, as it powers down the discreet GPU and transfers the operation to the integrated solution when the applications only need a low level of graphics horsepower.

The new NVIDIA graphics processor series also includes the company's CUDA computing architecture and is able to provide Graphics Plus capabilities. The GPUs can deliver NVIDIA PhysX gaming effects as well as fast video and image processing accelerated by the new solutions.

In addition, the company also announced that users who already have a mobile PC that includes NVIDIA GPUs can download upgradeable graphics drivers directly from its site, a move that would allow them improve application compatibility, take advantage of new features and also make performance optimizations. The new GeForce GTX 200M and GeForce GTS 100M Series GPUs developed by the Santa Clara graphics chip maker will be showcased at the annual CeBIT expo. More information on the new GPUs can be found on the company's site.
