NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 580 graphics card has not even reached shelves yet and there are already quite a few rumors talking about yet another addition to the GTX 500 series of Fermi GPUs, namely the GeForce GTX 570, that allegedly offers the same level of performance as the former GTX 480 flagship, but at a significantly lower price point. The rumor comes from Fudzilla (so it's up to you whether you want to believe it or not), and paints a fairly interesting picture, at least as far as the future NVIDIA customers are concerned. So, according to the aforementioned report, the GPU manufacturer is actually preparing the release of another card in the GTX 500 series, the GeForce GTX 570 model, whose overall level of performance should be set at roughly the same level as the one of the GTX 480, with a few minor updates on the side. So, it would seem that, instead of 512 shaders enabled, the new card has one cluster less and 480 shaders, like the GTX 480, while the higher chip clock (provided by the GF110 core) makes it even better than its predecessor, while the price point remains the same. Of course, it remains to be see whether this piece of information is accurate or not (guess that only time and NVIDIA will tell), but if it proves to be right, then AMD's problems has just gotten a lot worse, since their future AMD Radeon HD 6900 series will have to face not one, but two Fermi cards that really mean business. However, NVIDIA's won't sit on no bed of roses, either, since we're pretty sure it will draw the discontent of quite a few early GTX 480 adopters, who've paid quite a serious amount of cash for a card's that it's quite obviously becoming obsolete (or at least devalued) at a very fast rate.
