Now that NVIDIA's Fermi-based GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 are, more or less, available on the enthusiast segment, market watchers have become more focused on finding out about future cards. The most immediate order of business is, of course, unearthing details on the third strongest adapter that, according to rumors, should show up in June. So far, this adapter has only been known as the GTX 460. Now, however, it seems that the real name, along with the list of specifications, has been found out.

The team over at Donanimhaber somehow managed to discover that the third desktop SKU with support for DirectX 11 from NVIDIA will be known as the GeForce GTX 465 and will be only somewhat weaker than the GTX 470. The graphics processor will have the same clock (607MHz), and the shader frequency will be set at 1,215MHz. Also, the adapter will have only 1GB of memory.

The effective memory frequency of the video controller is of 3,206MHz, whereas the interface is of 256 bits. For those that that need a reminder, the GTX 470 has an interface of 320 bits and 1,280MB GDDR5. As for power consumption, the upcoming model will have a TDP (thermal design power) of 215W, the same as its elder brother. From the looks of it, this GTX 465 will likely take on the ATI Radeon HD 5830 and HD 5850 cards and will have to be stronger in order to offset the higher power and pricing needs.

Unless NVIDIA is again faced with chip-yield issues and has to delay this card, as it did with its previous two ones, the official announcement should not be far off. In fact, previous rumors seemed to suggest that the formal introduction would be made at Computex, at the start of June. Regardless of when the product begins to sell, however, the price will be within the US$259 to US$299 range.
