It could be a rebranded GeForce 710M or GT 720M for all we know

NVIDIA will eventually launch a Maxwell-based line of mobile graphics processing units, but for now, we're still at Kepler. Although the new GPU that left its labs might not be based on even that.

The NVIDIA GeForce 820M has come out, as revealed by GeForce.com.

It supports OpenGL 4.4, OpenCL 1.1 and DirectX 11.2 API. Also, it should be 2.5 times as fast as the Intel HD 4400 (the iGP inside Haswell).

Unfortunately, this does not tell us what chip it is. It could be a rebranded GeForce 710M or GT 720M. Notebook makers like to receive higher product line numbers every year, and rebranding is an easy (and often necessary) way to cover that end.

It might even be an older Fermi-based chip, not even a Kepler. It's not like NVIDIA is gunning for any super performance crown here.
