The HTC Nexus 9 tablet has been in the rumor mill for so long that it has gained a mythical status. We were expecting the tablet to make an appearance a while ago, namely at the Google I/O event, but it didn’t.

Immediately afterwards, sources familiar with the matter hurried to lift the spirits of the disheartened ones who were fearing the tablet might not ever make it into the wild.

The device does exist, but Google and HTC were putting off the launch until the Android L was ready to make an appearance into the wild.

NVIDIA confirms the existence of the tablet

If you were still having doubts about the veracity of the information, fear no more. HTC and Google haven’t officially confirmed the existence of the tablet, but the wide consensus is that the Nexus 9 will take advantage of an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor.

And it is NVIDIA that went all whoopsy and all but confirmed the existence of the tablet. You might be familiar with the fact that the chip maker is currently involved in a lawsuit with Qualcomm and Samsung concerning patents infringements.

In a tidbit related to the legal actions taken against the competition we find the following.

“The HTC Nexus 9, expected in the third quarter of 2014, is also expected to use the Tegra K1.”

The legal filling has been removed since then, but the folks of Droid-Life managed to snap a screen shot of it.

And voila, there you have it. The Nexus 9 will soon be upon us, and if leaks are to be believed, we already have a date for the big event and that is October 9.

A roundup of the specs of the Nexus 9

Not so long, the Nexus 9 made an appearance in the notorious AnTuTu database, where it scored a hefty 46K points.

The listing on the above-mentioned website also confirmed the specifications we had so far.

The new tablet will apparently arrive with an 8.9-inch screen with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and will take advantage of an NVIDIA 64-bit Tegra K1 Denver platform fitted with 2GB of RAM and backed up by 32GB of internal storage.

At this point, it is becoming much clearer that the new Nexus 9 will take advantage of Android’s latest, dubbed Lemon Meringue Pie (LMP) or Android L.

The tablet is shaping up to be quite a beast and should turn out to be a worthy successor of the largely popular Nexus 7 (2013) which a lot of people consider one of the best Android 7-inchers you can purchase to this day.

So here you go, in a month or so, we should be able to behold the Nexus 9 in all its glory. Soon, very soon.
