Specifications also become final, kinda

No, it's not some picture of a bare naked lady frolicking around holding her breasts out saying "double the pleasure, NVIDIA SLI". Yeah, I know, 'what's the connection between a nice looking woman and a piece of computer hardware?' you might say; well, they both share the same human interest factor, man.

The card is due sometime in the near future, alongside its major competitor, the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX. Even though AMD finished briefing the news editors, that gathered from around the world and ended up in Tunis, Tunisia, no products from their new line-up will be available until May, the 2nd of May that is, when the Radeon HD 2900 series are expected to launch. But not all of their graphics cards will be available on the 2nd of May, the Radeon HD 2600 and HD 2400 series will respect the original timeline, 14th of May.

In recent events, we have witnessed the defeat of ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX and of the Radeon HD 2900 XT, taken down or at least closely followed by the NVIDIA 8800GTS and 8800GTX. Seeing how the top rated graphics card from ATI has lost a battle against the current NVIDIA spearhead, what chances does it stand against the NVIDIA 8800 Ultra which is said to run at core/clock frequencies of 650/2160MHz? And that is by still using GDDR3 memories, not even touching the potential of GDDR4 memories, which so far have been used ONLY by ATI graphics cards. Maybe the guess Qimonda made about skipping GDDR4 and going straight for GDDR5 makes some sense now. All in all, these times are quiet, much like before a storm, but there's no telling whether AMD still believes it can defeat NVIDIA, or at least put up a good fight against them.
