Just recently, NVIDIA has officially introduced its GeForce 9400GT graphics card, designed for entry-level desktop computer users. The new card was released just after the Santa Clara chip maker had announced a couple of highly anticipated GeForce models, designed for the mainstream and entry-level markets, including the GeForce 9500GT. According to recent rumors, the company is preparing yet another GeForce graphics card, which will be dubbed 9550GT.
The new card is expected to build on the performance of the company's GeForce 9500GT, and provide an adequate competitor for AMD's upcoming HD 4600-series cards, set to be launched sometime next month. The 9550GT will be specifically targeted at the entry-level market, and is set to present users with an alternative to AMD's upcoming Radeon HD 4670 graphics card, which has recently been spotted on the Internet.
Currently, there are no details available regarding the card's technical specifications but, according to all the rumors, it will have to be better than the 9500GT, which sports a 550MHz GPU, 1400MHz shaders and 1400MHz memory. Furthermore, it will also have to beat AMD's 4670 card, which is expected to provide 320 stream processors, a GPU speed of 750MHz, and will be offered in 512MB and 1024MB models. AMD is believed to launch it on September 10.
The NVIDIA newcomer should provide SLI support, a PCI-Express 2.0 interface, and at least 512MB of graphics memory. Most likely, it will support NVIDIA's PhysX and CUDA technologies, two features that are currently supported by several of the company’s cards. Given that NVIDIA has already introduced its first 55nm graphics card, the upcoming GeForce 9550GT could also benefit from a 55nm process technology. However, that still remains to be confirmed.
As with all other, officially unconfirmed products, we can’t offer you any details regarding pricing and availability, but we are confident that extensive info will emerge in the upcoming days, so keep an eye on this space for more.
