Earlier this year, Santa Clara, California-based graphics chip maker NVIDIA announced its latest GeForce graphics processors, designed for the upcoming mainstream portable computer systems. With the announcement, the company debuted its new GeForce 100M series, which included the GeForce G105M, G110M and GT130M. It now appears that a new GT100M series mobile GPU has made its debut, in one of ASUS' latest portable computer systems, the N81Vg, which comes featured with a 14-inch LED-backlit display.

“We are proud to offer consumers a notebook that is capable of providing spectacular graphics and stunning clarity while maintaining effortless mobility,” said Alvin Chou, senior product manager of ASUS’ Notebook Business Unit. “By combining sublime graphics performance, smart technologies and supreme ease of use, the N81Vg is the ideal notebook for those who would like to enjoy multimedia to the fullest.”

The graphics behind ASUS' new 14-inch N81Vg portable computer system are being handled by a new NVIDIA GeForce GT 120M graphics processing unit that is featured with 32 processor cores, support for DirectX 10 gaming applications and 1080p HD video playback, using NVIDIA's PureVideo HD technology. Inside the N81Vg, the GT 120M GPU demonstrated a 3DMark2006 score of 5,431, according to ASUS.

“The ASUS N81Vg uses the GeForce GT 120M GPU to deliver a visual computing experience far superior to other notebooks in its category today,” said Rene Haas, general manager, Notebook Products, NVIDIA. “With 32 powerful processing cores, the GeForce 120M GPU makes photo editing, video editing, movie ripping, high-definition Blu-ray playback and gaming a reality on 14-inch notebooks.”

Aside from using the latest GPU made available by NVIDIA, the new ASUS notebook provides users with a choice for a number of Intel Core 2 Duo processors, supported by Intel's PM45 Express chipset. The system can enable support for up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 500GB SATA hard drive, DVD Super Multi or Blu-Ray DVD combo. In addition, users will be able to take advantage of a built-in 1.3MP web camera and an optional 6-cell battery.

Unfortunately, ASUS hasn't detailed the notebook's pricing and availability.
