Fears that the US government can see private information helps Swiss data centers

Due to news about the NSA spying everything and everyone, companies in the United States could suffer from a financial standpoint, and since clients are concerned about the safety of their data in the US, Swiss data centers are thriving.

Artmotion, Switzerland’s biggest offshore hosting company, has already reported growing revenues recently, with a staggering 45 to 50 percent last year, Forbes reports.

The recently leaked documents from Edward Snowden regarding the activities of the American National Security Agency have sparked a growing concern over data privacy and how much trust can be put in such companies.

Since the documents regarding PRISM mentioned big names such as Google, Apple and Microsoft, American companies are most likely the ones who will suffer from these issues.

Cloud-based file sharing services from the United States and the European Union could also be at risk from government agencies so customers might also distance themselves from these.

Mateo Meier, director at Artmotion, said that companies using their service are seeking to protect their activities.

And since Artmotion’ secure data servers are placed under the protection of Switzerland’s laws, which is not part of the European Union, many customers are likely to turn to his company.

For instance, Meier says, one of the company’s major client is an oil and gas exploration company working in politically turbulent areas where governments are closely monitoring all electronic communications.

It’s been a month since Edward Snowden told the world about the NSA spying programs and just as long since the public started blaming companies for agreeing to what the government was asking and the government for taking such freedoms with their basic rights.

The European Commission’s Neelie Kroes also believes that US cloud storage companies are going to suffer losses of billions of euros due to what the government has done.
