NCAA Football 11 from Electronic Arts for the Xbox 360 game console is the best selling video game for the month of July, according to figures from the NPD Group, but the company says that not included Starcraft 2 managed to sell more than 700,000 at the end of the month.

The overall value of video game sales reached 403.3 million dollars, which is about 8 percent less than during the same period of 2009.

NCAA Football 11 sold 368,000 units on the Xbox 360 and a further 298,000 units for the
PlayStation 3 to take the first two spots in the chart.

The 2009 edition of the game sold about the same, with a small advantage on the Microsoft console and smaller figures for the PS3.

Crackdown 2 from Microsoft and exclusive to the Xbox 360 took third place in the chart, with sales of 208,800 units in one month while fourth place went to Super Mario Galaxy 2 from Nintendo and for the Wii, on 193,000 copies.

LEGO Harry Potter took fifth place with its Nintendo DS version, managing to get 141,700 copies to fans.

The chart then includes: Red Dead Redemption, Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 for the Wii, Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, New Super Mario Bros Wii and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

One game which does not appear in the sales chart is Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, the PC exclusive real time strategy game from Blizzard.

Anita Frazier, who is an analyst working with the NPD Group, stated, “While video game retail sales show a very slight decline versus last July, we have to consider the success of StarCraft II this month, which helped the PC games category to realize a 103 percent increase in dollars over last July.”

The NPD Group does no longer include PC games in its overall video game chart, but Starcraft 2 would have taken the first place with more than 700,000 units sold in the two days that it was on sales.

Blizzard has previously said that all over the world the new strategy title managed to sell more than 1.8 million units in the first two days.
