The NPD Group is releasing its sales data for the United States market for the month of May, with the Xbox 360 from Microsoft once again taking the title of best-selling hardware for the 30-day period.

Microsoft is quoted by VG247 as saying that it has managed to move 114,000 devices to gamers, a steep decline when compared to the same period in 2012, but the PlayStation 3 and the older Wii saw even bigger drops.

Nintendo says that it has managed to post a 60 percent increase in terms of sales for the 3DS handheld, because of solid sales for Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon.

Overall, the gaming industry declined by a quarter in May 2013, as most gamers are getting ready to make the transition to the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft.

Both devices are set to arrive in the fall.
