The NPD Group announces that the United States hardware video game market saw big changes during September, with the PlayStation 3 from Sony becoming the best-selling home console of the period.

The device has defeated both the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, which led the chart for 32 months, and the Wii U from Nintendo, which has seen its own rebound.

The PlayStation 3 benefitted from a bundle launched in September, which included the highly awaited GTA V, according to VG247.

Overall hardware sales dropped in terms of value by 13 percent during the month, which is normal given that the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 will be launched in November.

Total sales reached 183.2 million dollars (136 million Euro).

The 3DS handheld continues to be the overall best-seller for the hardware sector.

The NPD Group says that the month of September saw the entire industry post an increase for the first time since January of this year.
