The NPD Group, an American company that tracks sales, is releasing a new Online Gaming 2013 report that reveals that 72 percent of gamers in the United States are playing games online.

This represents an increase of 5% over last year and the firm also says that the actual hours spent online has increased by about 9 percent acroos all platforms.

The most used device for online games was the PC but mobiles have also seen a solid increase when compared to 2012.

The growth of digital sales seems to be slowing as 64 percent of those surveyed by the NPD Group saying that they prefer to pick up retail copies.

Liam Callahan, an analyst, is quoted by VG247 as saying that, “While many gamers prefer games in the physical format, the increased availability of digital content paired with a greater amount of connected devices has driven an increase in the number of consumers going online to access the content they want.”
