The sales figures for the United States retail market for the month of July 2013 show that the gaming industry continues to decline when compared to the same period last year as the Nintendo 3DS keeps its position at the top of the hardware chart.

The handheld has managed to increase its own sales by 14 percent as the overall category has seen a decline of 33% when compared to July 2012, itself a rather bad month for the industry, according to data seen by NeoGAF.

Gamers are no longer interested in picking up current-gen consoles because they only have to wait until November in order to get access to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

Still, Microsoft says that it managed to move 107.000 Xbox 360s to gamers last month.

Sony and Nintendo have not offered official sales numbers for the Wii U and the PlayStation 3.
