Still an early version, but looks promising enough

Amazon’s Kindle Fire isn’t the only low-cost tablet that can run Android 4.0 as the NOOK Color is also capable of this feat, with the help of some clever hacking of course.

Just like with the Fire, developers from the XDA Forums managed to an early port of Ice Cream Sandwich to run on the $199 (148.7 EUR) tablet.

So far, the team that is working on Android 4.0 has got WiFi, Bluetooth and overclocking to work on the NOOK Color and also managed to install Android Market and other Google Apps.

Despite all these achievements, Liliputing reports that this is still a very early version of the port as sound and video aren’t working, while support for hardware graphics acceleration also isn’t available (and it may never be).

Full instructions on how to install Android 4.0 on the Color were not provided, but the source code is available, so you could build ICS from source if feeling adventurous enough.
