Security firm McAfee has joined forces with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in a National Cybersecurity Excellence Partnership. The National Cybersecurity Excellence Partnership is part of the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, which was launched in February 2012.

The center focuses on information sharing between private and government organizations in an effort to enhance the security of critical infrastructure.

“This is an excellent example of a public-private partnership that will produce dynamic results,” commented Tom Gann, VP for government relations at McAfee.

“The collaborative work of the National Cybersecurity Excellence Partnership will benefit important national initiatives such as e-health and e-learning along with improving the security of the nation’s businesses,” Gann added.

“McAfee is a leader in this market, but we know we’re not alone in the fight. Every attacker, every would-be cyber thief or terrorist is looking for loopholes and weaknesses in our cyber defenses. Seamless security – a continuum of secure systems, no matter who makes or services them – is our goal. The Center’s goal of interoperability is an important step towards that.”
