It's sad to see that just last night, Anaheim Mighty Ducks got hammered by the LA Lakers hockey team. Maybe we should go back in time and give the glory back to those players, because they were legendary 6 years ago beating any team in the US and even Canada. One of the finest sports games for the Playstation, NHL 2001 manages to keep the puck on the ice and EA Sports in the gaming biz. Fluid gameplay, great counters and passes, good-looking graphics, these are the things that made NHL 2001 a hit. Some people continue to play it, since the core of this title hasn't changed much, but the graphics have and in the 07 game, you'll witness some marvelous plays on the glittering ice. With all those tough body-check and fouls not seen by the referee, no one would get killed if we cheated a bit:
Play as "The Hammer" On the Create Player screen in the Rosters menu, create a new player and set his first name to Hammer. The announcers will refer to him as "The Hammer" during gameplay.
Be a Leader First, enter the "edit lines" section after creating a player (for instance, yourself!). Then scratch the captain and the assistant captain of the team. You must be a good player and be rough in spirit. Then put yourself in the first line as the center. If you followed the procedures, you'll lead the team out of the locker room at the start of the game and be the captain!
Animal On the Create Player screen in the Rosters menu, create a new player and set his first name to Animal. The announcers will refer to him as "The Animal" during gameplay.
Dude Enter "Bruce Willis" as a player name and then he will be referred to as the dude by the announcer.
No
Goalie During a game, press the Start Button to pause the game. Select Controller Setup, now move your controller over to the other team. Return to the previous menu and select your opposing teams options. Next, select Team Options. Where it says Goalie Status, you can elect to pull the goalie. Return to the previous menu again and go back into Controller Setup and move your Controller back over to your original team. When you return to the game, the other team will have no Goalie. If you want to restore the goalie to the other team, simply repeat all of these steps and elect to return the Goalie to the Net.
Minor League Players Some players now in the NHL spent the past year in the minors or as a free agent. EA Sports didn't overlook this aspect of the league. There are some players that aren't on any roster that will have stats available if you create them. Some of them may have an incorrect jersey number, handedness, or position on the game, which you can easily fix in the Create Player menu. Here are some of the players I've found:
-Dale Purinton, New York Rangers defenseman, number 5, left-handed
-Garth Snow, Pittsburgh Penguins goalie
-Johan Witehall, New York Rangers/Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) right winger
-Jean-Francois Labbe, New York Rangers/Hartford Wolf Pack goalie, number 31
-Terry Virtue, New York Rangers/Hartford Wolf Pack defenseman
Super Forwards Enter the create-a-player screen and enter one of the following names:
-"Peter Forsberg"
-"Jaromir Jagr"
-"Keith Tkachuk"
-"Pavel Bure"
-"Steve Yzerman"
-"Owen Nolan"
-"Rob Blake"
-"Nicklas Lidstrom"
-"Olaf Kolzig"
Answer "Yes" to use his ratings, then adjust them as needed. You can also use NHL Challenge bonus points to boost their attributes. Return to the previous screen and change his name to your choice, but do not change any other setting.
Some people can turn hockey into a boxing match:
Super Defensive Players Enter the create-a-player screen and enter: "Sandis Ozolinsh" or "Chris Pronger" as a name. Answer "Yes" to use his ratings, then adjust them as needed. You can also use NHL Challenge bonus points to boost their attributes. Return to the previous screen and change his name to your choice, but do not change any other setting.
Super Goalies Enter the create-a-player screen and enter: "Patrick Roy","Dominik Hasek" or "Ed Belfour" as a name. Answer "Yes" to use his ratings, then adjust them as needed. You can also use NHL Challenge bonus points to boost their attributes. Return to the previous screen and change his name to your choice, but do not change any other setting.
