The EA Sports division of publisher Electronic Arts has announced a number of new features for the upcoming NHL 12, the hockey simulation game that will be launched in the fall and will strive for more realism in all its game modes and a better physics engine.

The Be a Pro mode, which allows for gamers to create a customized player and then guide him through his career highlights and low points, has been re-imagined, with more historic records for the player to pursue and a more epic feel to the progression of the created hockey player.

The developers are also saying that the better a player performs “the more ice time you’ll get where you can simulate to your next shift so you’re always on the ice as you play out your entire career in pursuit of the Stanley Cup.”

Another addition EA Sports is promoting is the Full Contact Physics Engine, which is designed to make everything that appears on the ring interactive and usable by the player.

Glass will shatter in a realistic manner and player helmets will fly driven by real physics when players clash.

The new physics system means that bigger players will be able to get a better position in relation to the puck and that the battle in front on the net will be more intense than ever.

NHL 12 is the first game in the franchise that has dynamic goalies, which means that it pays to knock them out of position in order to score easier goals and that they might also become annoyed at the other team and then drop their gloves and get into a fistfight with the opposition.

EA Sports is also developing a new presentation for NHL 12.

The game is set to be launched on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, with the release date set for September 9 in Europe and September 13 in North America.
