A great new addition

Racing games are extremely popular these days, as players are eager to get behind the virtual driving wheel of a car and do whatever they want with it. Despite many titles guaranteeing a lot of options and driving modes, most of them focus only on racing, even though there are a lot of other things you could do with a car competitively.

Drifting is such a thing, as it represents the art of getting the car as sideways as possible while maintaining speed and going around a circuit, whether it is a special one or a mountain one, as it happens in the country that invented it, Japan.

Now, it seems that the latest installment of the Need For Speed series, NFS Shift, will definitely include this feature. It has recently been detailed on the website of the game, and it seems that Team Falken drive and drifting world champion, Vaughn Gittin JR. has worked closely with the team at Slightly Mad Studios on the implementation of the drifting mode in the game.

“After a few weeks of quiet since E3 we're pleased to reveal a new game mode for Need for Speed Shift: Drifting,” reads the announcement. “In the last few years the sport has rocketed in popularity to [a] point where there are large, successful tournaments around the world. When it came time to add it to Shift we wanted to ensure the mode was treated with the same degree of accuracy as the rest of the game so we worked closely with Team Falken driver and World Champion Vaughn Gittin JR. Initially the plan was for Vaughn to play the game a few times and give some feedback but he ended up spending more than 100 hours with the team to make sure the Drift experience was as close to real-life as possible.”

Not only did the team work hard to implement a mode that was great for amateurs and hardcore gamers alike, but there are also a lot of quality cars that have a tradition of going sideways in real-life competitions, including the iconic 1986 Toyota Corolla, or the Hachi-Roku, as it is named by fans of the classic car.

Here is the announcement video of this new gameplay mode, which will certainly make you eagerly anticipate the launch dates of September 15 in North America and September 17 in Europe.
