The producer of Need For Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed has just went on the attack against other racing simulators, including Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 or Turn 10's Forza Motorsport 3, calling their graphics bland and saying that the new title from EA will deliver an improved experience.

Yesterday's big announcement regarding Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed, the next iteration in EA's racing series, really surprised a lot of people.

Shift 2, as its name suggests, is the sequel to last year's NFS: Shift, which introduced a more realistic take on racing in the NFS franchise, which was known only through its arcade titles.

But while the original Shift just tested out the waters, Shift 2 Unleashed will really take on the best racing simulators out there, including franchises like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport, at least according to Marcus Nilsson, the producer of the new racing game.

According to him, while Shift 2 won't reach the 60 frames per second benchmark set out by Forza Motorsport 3, and even if it won't have a huge amount of cars, like Gran Turismo 5, the title will deliver a far better experience.

"You have to make a choice with today's tech. Either you go for - and this is harsh but it's what I think - the bland graphics of GT and Forza, or you try to push the bar for what consoles can do," said Nilsson.

"That's what Slightly Mad is doing, and hence the decision was made to aim for 30 frames," he added.

Forza Motorsport 3 impressed a lot of people last year when it appeared on the Xbox 360 and Gran Turismo 5 is finally set to make its debut on the PlayStation 3 next week.
