Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed will be getting a brand new downloadable content next week, with Electronic Arts, its publisher, releasing a new add-on that introduces not only new cars and tracks on which to race them, but also two new competitions.

Shift 2: Unleashed is the latest iteration in EA's racing simulator series, being marketed as a spinoff to the regular Need for Speed one and trying to introduce some of the most realistic, yet still fun, driving experiences.

Now, after the game's release at the end of March, EA and Slightly Mad Studios, the developer of Shift 2, have revealed the second piece of actual downloadable content for it, in the form of the Speedhunters pack.

Set to be released next week, the add-on introduces "a whole new career path with new game modes, cars and tracks inspired by the expansive network of automotive photographers, journalists and drivers at Speedhunters.com."

Two new events will be added to the game, in the form of Drag racing and Standing Mile, each with nine events, "where players will only be able to use the manual gear change so that they can really feel what it's like to be in the driver's seat."

Drag racing is your standard quarter mile race while the Standing Mile event consists of two cars racing each other down a 1-mile stretch of road, with the winner being the one who reaches the fastest speed.

"Both branches allow for new high-power customization options where players can create 1000 horsepower engines capable of reaching speeds of over 250 mph."
