Babes and hot rides are the excellent ingredients for a blockbuster title, specially if it pertains to the
NFS series, but it seems that EA now regrets having used the image of some porn models to promote ProStreet. The girls were featured on Page 3.com, one of The Sun's adjacent sites and they were shown topless and posing with a cool Ferrari, while the NFS and EA logos were scattered around the image.
I don't quite
see the reason why
EA regret their marketing decision, calling these images "slipped" ones, because we all know that NFS wouldn't be the same without the delicious babes from the starting line. The problem may be that those games are also played by children and soft porn is still porn, so the parents won't dig a NFS poster featuring naked girls, even if they're not featured in the game. In the case of huge sellers, you must handle PR and marketing very well, because a minor slip can cause a disaster.
90% of all major racing titles include babes and they find an excuse for it, either by making them race drivers, the girlfriends of male racers, part of the ... "storylines" or just beautiful bystanders filmed by the race cameramen. EA has deleted all of the images that featured their logo and the NFS one plus the chicks from the Internet and the only set of images that are available are the ones without the above-mentioned brands.
In the meantime,
ProStreet is doing reasonably well in Europe, being released on the continent last Friday and hitting the charts a couple of days ago on second spot. PR and sales aside, does EA's decision mean that we won't be seeing hot babes in their racing games? We've still got the customization and hard rockin' music, but the male public's also craving for some female fans to cheer for their favorite drivers. So, I guess it's back to Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer and their Asian beauties, right?
