Only for the Wii and DS

The Need for Speed franchise has been one of the most popular racing series of video games for quite some time. Owned by Electronic Arts, it has entertained gamers for a lot of years and satisfied their need for high-speed races around exotic settings and complex cities, all while evading the police or completing an interesting story.

But sadly, in the last few years, things haven't been going great for the franchise, as fans grew tired of all the experiments their beloved series was put through, going from trying to be a simulator to an arcade racer or an action-oriented title.

Luckily, a few months ago, EA decided that it would divide the franchise into more titles, each focusing on a popular aspect or a niche in order to satisfy specific gamers. We've already heard a lot about NFS Shift, which will try to replicate an authentic driving experience, and NFS World Online, which will be a free-to-play open-world racer, and now the team at EA Montreal has decided to showcase its own creation, NFS Nitro.

Nitro will be aimed at more casual users and will be exclusive to the Nintendo Wii and DS at the end of this year. It wants to recreate a more action-oriented experience, combining high-speed races through cities with police chases while trying to keep the player always entertained. We've now received a video and a set of screenshots for the two versions of the game, and they look pretty good. Don't judge by the video though, as it isn't in-game footage. The roster of cars also looks pretty impressive with the likes of the Dodge Charger R/T, the Audi R8, the Ford Mustang or Ford GT and many more.

Without further ado here are the screenshots and the video, courtesy of GameTrailers.
