The portable version of the racing title has just a few limitations

Criterion Games, the developer of the upcoming Need for Speed: Most Wanted racing game, says that the PlayStation Vita edition of the title is basically the same game as the PS3 version, with the only drawbacks being the traffic density and the number of players that can compete online.

NFS: Most Wanted reimagines the 2005 cult classic racing game, with new mechanics and better graphics, thanks to the impressive Frostbite 2 engine.

Besides appearing on platforms like the PC, PS3, or Xbox 360, the game is also going to reach the PS Vita handheld.

This portable edition, according to Criterion, is almost the same as the PS3 one, for example, as very few things were changed due to the Vita's technical limitations.

"As much as we possibly could, we wanted to deliver all the great things about the console version of the game: an open world, freedom, choice, variety, highly connected. All those principles looked like they were achievable on the machine, so that was what we set out to do," Criterion Producer Matt Webster told the PS blog.

The Criterion developer did highlight a few modifications that were made due to the Vita's hardware, but they don't seem that important.

"You just run across performance challenges. Some of those are fundamental, which you learn to overcome as development progresses, and others you have to make some compromises. It is exactly the same game [as the PlayStation 3 version] apart from traffic density and number of players online," he added.

Webster also emphasized that NFS: Most Wanted feels good on the PS Vita so owners of the device will have a great time with it on their portable device.

"I think it will turn out to be something that PS Vita owners didn't realize was possible on that machine - it is quite a significant achievement to do an open world game to the level of quality that we've managed. And then to have something as highly connected as it is - that's something fresh and new. I think it will find a really good home on PS Vita."

Need for Speed: Most Wanted comes out for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and PS Vita on October 30, in North America, and November 2, in the rest of the world.
