Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry has been admitted to hospital with what police describe as “life threatening injuries” after falling from the back of a truck that his girlfriend was supposedly driving. According to USA Today, the sports star is on life support, with some even telling the media that they don’t see how he could possibly pull through.

The accident occurred during a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, Loleini Tonga. Reports say she ran out of the house they shared in North Carolina and got into a pickup truck. Henry ran out after her and hopped into the bed of the truck, from where he fell at one point. When police and paramedics arrived on the scene, Henry was still in the middle of the road, unresponsive and in a clear bad shape. He’s believed to have sustained multiple head injuries.

“The agent for Bengals WR Chris Henry said the wideout was fighting for his life on Wednesday night after sustaining injuries in an auto accident in Charlotte. Henry was involved in what police said was a domestic dispute with his fiancée, Loleini Tonga. He got into the bed of a truck she was driving and as the dispute lingered, Henry was dislodged from the truck,” USA Today informs.

“The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that homicide detectives had joined traffic police investigating the accident. Fox Sports reported that Henry was on life support, and AOL FanHouse spoke to an unnamed person close to Henry who said of his status, ‘We don’t think he’s going to make it’,” the same publication says. Andy Simms, the Bengals agent confirms that Henry is in pretty bad shape, saying, “He is indeed battling for his life tonight, and our thoughts and prayers our [sic] with him.”

Other reports in the US media say police are stationed outside Henry’s hospital room, which might indicate that they’re treating this as an attempted homicide. According to TMZ, just hours before the accident, Tonga was gushing on MySpace about her upcoming wedding to the NFL star, saying that they even had the rings and put down a deposit on the wedding pictures.
