NETGEAR has just outed a new firmware update targeted at its UTM ProSecure Firewall units, namely version 3.6.1-29, which can be applied regardless of the operating system powering your computer.

The new release adds an OpenSSL vulnerability fix (CVE-2014-0224), resolves the issue with the VDSL module that wouldn’t activate on boot, and fixes the secondary WAN IP loopback problem that didn’t allow the internal user to access the server using the secondary WAN IP address.

In addition to that, the new version also fixes an issue encountered when connecting an iPhone 5 or iPad to a UTM9S with DSL module. This bug caused the VPN not to display the connection status, and the traffic and connection to be very inconsistent or to drop frequently.

Moreover, version 3.6.1-29 resolves the problem spotted when rebooting a UTM9S device where the DSL couldn’t connect. Until now, the user was required to press “Apply” in the DSL Module WAN settings in order to fix this bug.

As for installing this update, save and extract the appropriate downloadable archive for your firewall onto your desktop, log into the device’s administration page, and apply the new firmware (.pkg file) from the Firmware Upgrade section.

That being said, download NETGEAR UTM Firewall Firmware 3.6.1-29, apply it on your device, and enjoy the new benefits that this latest software brings about.
