NETGEAR has released new firmware versions for its R6300 802.11ac WiFi Router and A6200 802.11ac WiFi USB Adapter, which add support for the new Beamforming+ technology.

Beamforming+ is a signal-focusing technology that raises coverage area, improves the 802.11ac WiFi connection speed, and lowers interferences and dead spots.

As NETGEAR’s tests demonstrate, at a distance of approximately 50 feet, when enabling Beamforming+ on an R6300 802.11ac router, the performance increases by up to 60 percent when connecting to another 802.11ac device.

If updated, the R6300 and A6200 will recognize the location of another wireless product and deliver the WiFi signal directly at the device, while also tracking its movement if it is a mobile phone or tablet.

Moreover, the R6300’s channel can now be set to 12/13 in 2.4G for Asia regions, and the multiple file copy issue on MAC OS is resolved.

As for upgrading to the latest version, NETGEAR recommends that the process is performed with a “wired” or an Ethernet connection only, and that a factory default is done after the firmware update is complete.
